Planning for the Next 100 Years

TJC has approached this milestone bond initiative with a focus on long-term planning and management.

2019

Completion of TJC’s Strategic Plan, charting a course through 2026.

2022

Development of a comprehensive Campus Master Plan, documenting facility assessments and projected space requirements.

2024-2025

Formation of a Facilities Planning Committee, including community members and College representatives, to review focus areas in earlier planning efforts.

From this process, three major projects were identified to accommodate community partnerships, student learning environments, workforce preparation and the College’s technological and physical infrastructure.

Why these Projects?

The Facilities Planning Committee identified these existing TJC facilities and technology as limiting effective provision of workforce and academic education. The Committee recommended the proposed projects to meet current demand and growth.

Workforce & Academic Building

Multipurpose training and education facility

More than 20 of TJC’s workforce and STEM programs utilize the 1966 Pirtle Technology Center which is decades-old and does not have advanced classrooms, simulation labs
or collaborative learning spaces.

This facility will house TJC’s workforce training and academic programs for high-demand industries, including engineering, business, criminal justice, surveying, information technology and others. It will feature advanced classrooms, simulation labs and collaborative learning spaces that prepare students for immediate entry into well-paying local careers.

To provide for current classes and anticipated future demand, the Facilities Planning Committee determined the most cost-effective option would be to construct a new building with modern technology similar to what graduates will be using in the workplace.

Student Success Center

Centralized student resources

TJC offers 18 services that support students throughout their college journey—from entry to enrollment, persistence and graduation. Currently, these services are spread across eight different older buildings on the 145-acre Central Campus.

Consolidating these services into a single “Student Success Center” will centralize operations and streamline processes. Students will spend less time completing administrative tasks. TJC will be able to more efficiently and effectively provide student support services.

Student Safety & IT Center

Consolidated digital & physical security

Ensuring physical and technological safety on college campuses is essential for
student well-being, high academic performance and institutional success.*

By locating these functions within the same facility, the College will integrate its digital and physical security operations for almost 20,000 students and 1,200 employees who learn and work at TJC.

TJC Police currently operate out of two former homes that were not designed to
support the operational, safety or service functions of a law enforcement agency.

The current data and technology building has structural integrity issues that preclude it
from meeting the current and future demands of advancing workforce technology.
